Taiwan Trip – 2006

DSC00067

Year 2006 is a miserable year to me, I have a broken relationship in the early of the year and all I do is running away. So, Taiwan become a sudden saver to me. I touched down to this country with a lot of mix feelings

My cousin brother, Dixon invited me to join his couple friends – Andy & May to the trip. I really need this trip badly. I need to breath the air out from this country.

I do have to admit that I feel better once we reached Taiwan. Even the bus ticket from airport to our hotel has the “weird name” FREE GO BUS, a direct translate from the chinese spelling of “fei gou” TAIWAN BOLEH!

Our hotel rooms located exactly the middle of XI MEN DING. You can see how noisy the crowd is even its already 12am in the midnight.

I bought a HUGE sausage for my supper while walking alone on the street. My cousin was shopping with the couple.

May was in love with mineral water packaging. Honestly, it looks better than ours back in Malaysia.

When I walk pass this stall, I was so surprise what drink is that. Cause it stated there, “Frog’s egg”

When I really look into the big container, it was the ICE LEMON JELLY JUICE we can always found in Malaysia’s night market (pasar malam). But, the taste is much more better than those you found in Malaysia.

I tried the ice-cream puff which is very popular around SHI LIN night market. It might be taste nice on the first bite, but it turns very cooling until I feel like I’m going to vomit out after I finish the whole puff.

This is the pizza puff that I took after I enjoy my Hot Spring. This pizza puff taste so nice, I took 5 puffs in one shot. I guess I got my cousin shocked~haha!

We went to WU FEN PU for shopping. Its a shopping heaven to us! Its cheap and trendy! And I love this pic so much~as I look so yeng~hehe

We met these two cute doggies when we were shopping at TAN SHUI night market. The shop owners keep showing off their dogs and they do some sharing about their doggies.

I love this piece of art the most. It is the cover of one of the longkang hole that I have to pass by everytime I on my way back to hotel.

The day I am leaving back to Malaysia, I went for a shop in The Red House. It was like a modernise lifestyle in an old stylish building. I feel like I was stuck between two different decades. Taiwan? I will visit again~

HOW TO GET THERE

Now you can fly with Air Asia with cheaper price. But I went to Taiwan via Singapore. I took MAS from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. From Singapore, I took Jetstar (which available in Malaysia now) to Taiwan. Its a 5 hours journey but the tickets for Jetstar including return only cost me RM1,000.00

PLACES TO VISIT

  1. XI MEN DING (西门町)
  2. JIU FEN (九粉)
  3. DAN SHUI (淡水)
  4. YU REN MA TOU (渔人码头)
  5. SHI LIN NIGHT MARKET (士林夜市)
  6. DAN SHUI NIGHT MARKET (淡水夜市)
  7. YANG MING SHAN (阳明山)
  8. GUANDU
  9. TAIPEI 101
  10. KEE LUNG CITY (基隆)
  11. BEUTO HOT SPRING REGION (北斗温泉)
  12. LONG SHAN TEMPLE (龙山诗)
  13. THE RED HOUSE (红楼剧场)
  14. WU FEN PU (五分浦)

Sorry mates, I cant remember much where I have been to

BEFORE YOU GO

As if you are holding Malaysian Passport, no visa is applicable to visit this country but you can only have your stay for 14 days. If you are planning to stay more than the length, you have to apply for visa. Special charges for Taipei City are i) single entry – RM 100.00 ii) multiple entry – RM200.00

TRAVEL SUGGESTION

If you are following a tour, then you don’t have to worry about this. But my suggestions will go to those who plan to travel by themselves.

Things you remember to grab

  1. MRT CARD – such as touch n go for buses and train
  2. BUS ROUTE – you can get it at the airport information counter
  3. LATEST UPDATED MAP – THIS IS A MUST. I have no idea how are you going to move around without map
  4. COUNTRY SIM CARD – if you plan to keep contact with your friends in Malaysia, please do buy a disposable sim card to save your phone bill cost

**if possible, don’t take the cab/taxi in Taiwan, it’s costly and some of them are not honest (just like Malaysian lah~)

ACCOMMODATION

I suggest you make a early booking from the internet and do not stay inside XI MEN DING. This is the huge mistake that I have made. It is costly and not worth for the price. Book a hotel that nearby to bus station or MRT station. You may also book a hotel that require few minutes walk to the station. Trust me, it is more worth than paying  NT 1200 per night for a room like your hostel.

COST FOR TRAVEL

Excluding air tickets expenses, its very cheap to travel around Taiwan. The only weak point is you have to bargain when you are shopping in the night market. Never go to the mall. Cause you can get cheaper Branded gadgets or clothes in Malaysia.

TAIWAN

Happy travel in Taiwan~ Muacks
